Terms & Conditions
Last Updated: 2 May 2025
These terms apply to watch repair and restoration services carried out by Sukhothai Atelier at 56 Mittraphap Road, Nai Mueang, Nakhon Ratchasima 30000, Thailand. By leaving a timepiece in our care or requesting a service through our website, you agree to the terms set out below. If you have any questions before proceeding, please contact us at [email protected] or by telephone on +66 44 271 583.
1. About the Atelier
Sukhothai Atelier ("we", "us", "our") is an independent watch repair and restoration workshop operating in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. We provide services for mechanical timepieces including inspection, servicing, cosmetic work, and comprehensive restoration. References to "you" or "the owner" mean the individual or entity delivering a timepiece to us or requesting a service through our website.
2. Acceptance of Terms
By submitting an enquiry through our website, telephoning us, or handing a timepiece to us for assessment or service, you accept these terms. We may update these terms from time to time; the version in effect when you deliver your piece to us applies to that service.
3. Service Assessment and Quotation
All work begins with an assessment. Our standard practice is as follows:
- We inspect the timepiece and provide a written description of the work recommended, together with an estimated cost.
- We will not begin any work until you have confirmed in writing (by email or message) that you wish to proceed.
- If examination reveals additional issues not visible at initial inspection, we will contact you before continuing. You may withdraw at any point without obligation before work begins.
- Where replacement parts are required, we will provide their cost in advance and obtain your approval before ordering.
Quotations are estimates based on the information available at the time of assessment. We make every effort to hold to them, and if our estimate changes by more than a modest amount we will inform you before proceeding.
4. Our Services
Basic Service & Inspection — ฿4,400
A close inspection of the movement followed by cleaning, lubrication, and regulation. Suited to watches with irregular timekeeping or for routine care of a piece that runs well. Service includes all lubricants and basic consumables. Significant replacement parts, if needed, are priced separately and agreed in advance.
Hand & Dial Service — ฿8,500
A cosmetic service concentrating on the watch face — cleaning the dial (where suitable) and refreshing or replacing the hands. We discuss the aesthetic approach with you beforehand, as originality and patina have value and some owners prefer to retain them. Costs for replacement hands or other components are agreed before work begins.
Comprehensive Restoration — ฿14,600
An in-depth restoration involving movement rebuilding, worn component replacement, and case and dial conservation. Each restoration begins with an unhurried assessment and a written plan. The base price covers standard restoration work; specialist parts, unusual complications, or significant case repair may carry additional costs, agreed with you before we proceed.
5. Turnaround Times
We do not commit to fixed completion dates as careful work cannot always be hurried. Typical turnaround guidance is offered at the assessment stage. We will keep you informed of progress and contact you promptly if any delay is anticipated. Time-sensitive requests should be discussed with us before work begins.
6. Pricing and Payment
- All prices are quoted in Thai Baht (฿) and are inclusive of Thai VAT where applicable.
- Payment is due on collection of the timepiece or, for posted pieces, before return despatch.
- We accept payment by bank transfer, cash, and other methods confirmed at the time of service.
- We reserve the right to retain a completed piece until payment has been received in full.
7. Care of Timepieces in Our Possession
We treat every timepiece in our care with the same attention we would give our own. While a piece is with us:
- We hold it securely at our workshop.
- We photograph and record its condition at intake.
- We carry professional indemnity and premises insurance appropriate to the value of watches typically handled.
In the unlikely event of loss or damage directly attributable to our negligence, our liability is limited to the fair market value of the timepiece at the time it was left with us, as agreed between the parties or assessed by an independent valuator. We are not liable for pre-existing faults, hidden defects, or conditions present at intake.
8. Owner's Responsibilities
When delivering a timepiece to us, you confirm that:
- You are the lawful owner of the piece, or are authorised to instruct its repair on the owner's behalf.
- You have disclosed any known history of prior repair, damage, or restoration.
- You will inform us if any detail about the piece changes while it is in our care that may affect the service.
9. Collection and Uncollected Pieces
We will notify you when your piece is ready. We ask that collection takes place within 60 days of notification. After 90 days, we will make reasonable additional attempts to contact you. Pieces uncollected after 180 days may, at our discretion and after written notice to your last known address or email, be treated as abandoned under applicable Thai law. We will document all steps taken and any proceeds from disposal of an uncollected piece will be used to offset outstanding charges.
10. Service Warranty
We stand behind the work we carry out. If a fault arises that is directly attributable to our service, we will investigate and, where warranted, carry out remedial work at no charge. This applies to the movement work completed by us and does not extend to pre-existing conditions, physical damage after collection, water ingress in a watch not rated for water resistance, or parts that have reached the end of their natural life.
Our service warranty applies for 12 months from the date of collection for Basic Service and Hand & Dial Service, and 24 months for Comprehensive Restoration. The warranty is personal to the owner who commissioned the service.
11. Limitation of Liability
Our liability to you in connection with any service is limited to the charges paid for that service and, where a timepiece is damaged by our negligence, the fair market value of the piece. We are not liable for indirect losses, loss of sentimental value, or costs of obtaining equivalent services elsewhere, except as required by Thai consumer protection law.
12. Cancellation and Withdrawal
You may withdraw your authorisation for service at any time before work has begun, at no cost. Once work has commenced, reasonable costs for work already carried out may be charged. We will always tell you clearly what charges apply before you make a decision to proceed or withdraw.
13. Website Use
Our website is provided for information and enquiry purposes. We make reasonable efforts to keep information current but do not warrant that all prices, turnaround estimates, or service descriptions are accurate at all times. Nothing on the website constitutes a binding offer; all service engagements are confirmed in writing between us.
We are not responsible for the content of any third-party websites linked from our site. Use of external links is at your own discretion.
14. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Kingdom of Thailand. Any dispute arising in connection with our services that cannot be resolved between us informally will be referred to the courts of Nakhon Ratchasima province, unless otherwise required by applicable consumer protection legislation.
