How the Atelier Came to Be
Sukhothai Atelier was founded in Nakhon Ratchasima by a watchmaker who grew up taking apart the family heirloom sitting in a drawer — a pocket watch passed down through three generations, kept more for sentiment than for use. The instinct to understand how things worked turned into an apprenticeship, then into years of training in movement servicing and case restoration.
The atelier opened on Mittraphap Road as a deliberately small operation. Not a chain, not a counter sharing space with phone repairs or jewellery. A single workshop where mechanical watches are the only concern and every piece that arrives receives the same unhurried attention.
Over the years we have worked on daily wearers, collectible vintage pieces, and inherited watches whose owners weren't quite sure what they had — only that it mattered to them. That last kind is the one we take special care with, because we understand the weight of it.
Our Mission
What We Try to Do
Our aim is simply to return mechanical watches to dependable use — or, when a watch is better left as a conserved object, to make that case honestly and let the owner decide. We do not have a target to upsell or a quota to fill. We have one watchmaker who takes pride in the work.
We write down our assessment findings. We agree costs before work begins. We explain things in plain language. These are not extraordinary promises — they are the way any honest workshop should operate.

Kriangsak Wattana
Master Watchmaker & Founder
Trained in movement servicing and restoration over twelve years, Kriangsak established the atelier with the intention of running a workshop that respects both the watch and the owner's time.
Naphat Phromma
Movement Technician
Naphat handles cleaning, lubrication, and regulation for service work, with a particular focus on older Swiss-lever movements and vintage Thai-market timepieces.
Suthida Rakphan
Client Liaison & Assessments
Suthida manages client communication, written assessments, and collection arrangements — ensuring owners always know where their watch stands in the process.
How We Work
Workshop Standards
Magnified Inspection
Every movement is examined under magnification before and after work. We document what we find so the assessment is clear and verifiable.
Ultrasonic Cleaning
Movement components are cleaned in an ultrasonic bath using watchmaker-grade solutions, removing accumulated debris without abrasion.
Timing Machine Testing
Each serviced movement is tested on a timing machine across multiple positions to confirm the regulation meets an acceptable standard before return.
Secure Storage
Watches in our care are stored in a locked, climate-aware environment. We do not leave client pieces unattended on open benches.
Service Documentation
Completed service work is accompanied by a written record noting what was done, parts replaced (if any), and the post-service timing result.
No Work Without Consent
We do not begin any service or restoration without the owner's written agreement to the scope and cost. Assessments alone carry no obligation to proceed.
Our Approach
Watchmaking in Nakhon Ratchasima
Mechanical watches are among the more unusual things people bring to a workshop. Unlike most repairs, the decision to service a watch is rarely urgent — a watch that has stopped can wait on a shelf, and many do, for years. What prompts an owner to act is often something less practical: a memory attached to the piece, a wish to wear something that belonged to someone else, or simply a quiet curiosity about whether it can be made to work again.
At Sukhothai Atelier, we take that kind of enquiry seriously. We know that the monetary value of a watch and its significance to its owner are often entirely separate things. A modest mid-century automatic worth a few thousand baht at market may be the one object a person most wants to see running again. We work on it with the same care we would give to something considerably more expensive.
Our workshop serves customers across Nakhon Ratchasima and the broader Khorat Plateau region. We also receive watches by arrangement from owners further afield who prefer to deal with a small, knowable workshop rather than an anonymous postal service. We are glad to discuss arrangements that work for you.
Three services cover the most common needs: a basic movement service and inspection for watches that need a clean and a regulation; a hand and dial service for pieces whose movements are fine but whose faces have lost their freshness; and a comprehensive restoration for older watches that require more thorough attention. Each is priced clearly and begins with an assessment that carries no obligation.
